Many businesses today are focusing on their core business and consequently
choose not to concern themselves with the day to day running of
a remote data gathering system. To help these customers, Lee-Dickens
offers a Data Centre Service that takes care of the operation and maintenance
aspects of a telemetry Central Station.
The Sitewatch Data Centre Servers communicate regularly with the
customers'
sites, retrieving level, status and alarm information. There are
a number of ways in which the gathered information can be made available
to the customer:
- HTML pages
- XML files
- Email
- Voice Mail
- SMS
- HTTPS
The selected method of accessing the data may vary depending on
the nature of the system being monitored. HTML has proved to be
particularly popular since this can be viewed with standard Internet
browsers and using mobile phones/PDAs. Browsing of HTML and WAP pages
is restricted subject to account permissions.
XML files are often used to present telemetry data to an ERP system
such as SAP sometimes via a messaging hub such as the Microsoft
BizTalk Server. File transfer is normally performed using FTP although
other standards are supported. The Sitewatch Servers may be required
to proactively email status and alarm reports to designated email
addresses.
The Sitewatch Servers can be remotely configured with alarm parameters
and set-points. These are typically received by FTP in XML format.
This may be from a regional or customer account manager or technician.
